snyderelectronics@sbcglobal.net 626.794.7139 March 1, 2006 ![]() ANTUHF-PORT-X The Snyder Antenna Systems portal reading antenna is called “The Sidewinder,” because it is the first portal antenna with a side facing pattern, allowing it to be mounted flat against a wall. It is a truly unique antenna system which uses waveguide technology to achieve a highly effective pattern for reading across portals, while having an amazingly low profile. While conventional patch antennas must extend into the read space by 10-12 inches and use at least two antennas, the new Snyder antenna mounts against a wall and protrudes only two inches. In many cases where appearance or an unobtrusive installation is important, this antenna will provide the answer. A single antenna provides full vertical coverage of the portal and a broad pattern in the horizontal plane. Connectors are provided for bistatic operation using separate receive and transmit ports, for best sensitivity. Single connector monostatic operation is also supported. The second truly unique characteristic of this antenna is its optional smart sensor output. This output is optionally provided for reader control. When a tag enters the field, a request is sent to the reader to make a read. Thus the reader need not be continuously interrogating the portal. Also, the output is directional, indicating whether the tag is moving into or out of the controlled space. Brief specifications are as follows:
Specification Details: Receive and transmit ports are labeled. These are for bistatic operation. They may be exchanged if better results are achieved. Either port may also be used for monostatic operation if preferred. The small panel with DB-9 connector is only used for the bi-directional motion sensing option. This option is not required for using the antenna. The green and red LED will flash on, indicating a motion past the antenna. These signals are also available on the DB-9 connector. The outputs are dry reed relay contacts, normally open. One contact pair is for movement to the left, the other for movement to the right. 12 VDC is required to activate this function. The pin-out is as follows: Pins 1 and 6: Motion in the “green” direction Pins 2 and 7: Motion in the “red” direction Pin 5: +12 VDC Pin 3: Ground Pins 6 and 7 are common with ground. They may be isolated from ground if requested at order. |
